DR COLLMAN IS A TRUE PIONEER IN MEDICINE AND IT BEGAN IN HIS CHILDHOOD. HE COMPLETED A COLLEGE COURSE IN HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY, (YES THE ENTIRE PROGRAMS IN THE 8TH GRADE). HE KNEW HE WANTED TO BE A PHYSICIAN AND HIS APTITUDE SHOWED HE WAS CAPABLE OF THIS LEVEL OF STUDY AND IT WAS EASY FOR HIM. HE NEVER STRUGGLED. EVERY 8TH GRADER IN HIS CLASS HAD HIS / HER BLOOD TYPED BY DWIGHT. HE NEEDED MANY OF THEM TO COMPLETE ALL OF THE ASSIGNMENTS AND THEY ALL VOLUNTEERED. HIS ENTIRE SMALL CITY OF ROY UTAH WAS SO IMPRESSED BY HIS ACHIEVEMENTS HE WAS ELECTED STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT BECAUSE THEN ROY HIGH SCHOOL HAD A REALLY INTELLIGENT PRESIDENT WHO THEN LEARNED BY NECESSITY PUBLIC SPEAKING. HE NEVER RAN FOR OFFICE THOUGH. HE WAS NOT A GREAT PRESIDENT IN THE MIND OF HIS FELOW OFFICERS BECAUSE HE WAS ALWAYS ATTENDING COLLEGE DURING MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS. HE WAS SCOLDED BY HIS FRIENDS FOR THIS OCCASIONALLY BUT WHEN HE MADE WORLD HISTORY BY INVENTING THE ECHMO MACHINE AND PAINTED SOME COOL LOGOS IN THE OFFICE FOR THE STUDENT BODY OFFICERS (his parents paid for him to become a professional artist and enrolled him in private art lessons from the fourth grade for many years. So by age 14-15 he was a museum quality artist).
HIS LIFE HAS ALWAYS BEEN ONE OF AWARDS, THEY HAD A SURPRISE HIGH SCHOOL CEREMONY WHERE THE ENTIRE SCHOOL ATTENDED JUST TO LIST ALL OF HIS AWARDS. “I WAS STILL SHY BACK THEN AND THIS WAS SO EMBARRASSING. AN ASSEMBLY JUST FOR ME….BUT IT WAS TRULY A YEAR I WILL NEVER FORGET, 1974.”
TWO YEARS LATER HE WAS IN MEDICAL SCHOOL (AGE 19) MOSTLY WITH PEOPLE MUCH OLDER THAN HIM. THEY WERE NOT KIND. “I STUDIED ALONE MUCH OF THE TIME AS I ALWAYS HAVE DONE.” “Also, I was married by age 19, 3 weeks before I entered medical school and it was great.”
